Why isn’t mixi open to those who live outside Japan?
Just recently, I was told by my business acquaintant living outside Japan that she had a trouble to join mixi, Japan’s largest social network service. She was required by mixi to enter an email address of a designated Japanese cell phone.
She even asked me to buy a cell phone here for her as she wanted to join mixi so badly. But, isn’t it so ridiculous that mixi requires those who live outside Japan to own a Japanese cell phone, in the first place? According to them, they are doing this, because some people condcuted malicious activities accessing from outside Japan. But it doesn’t justify them to shut out all those who live outside Japan.
I’ve read someone posting tips how to join mixi without a cell phone email adress by accessing mixi through some kind of a proxy server. I’ll have to figure out whether this trick still works or it has already been blocked by mixi.
